Singapore’s Stroke Network Join Efforts to Support theLocal Stroke Community for World Stroke Day
Singapore, 20 October 2018 – To mark the annual World Stroke Day that falls on
29 October, two of Singapore’s most active stroke networks ─ Stroke Support Station (S3) and Singapore National Stroke Association (SNSA), and working with Ministry of Health’s Stroke Services Improvement (SSI) have combined efforts to organise a two-day event at Toa Payoh HDB Hub Atrium on 20 and 21 October 2018. The event was graced by Guest-of-Honour,Prof. Au Wing Lok, Deputy Medical Director of National Neuroscience Institute.
In support of 2018 World Stroke Day theme - #UpAgainAfterStroke, this year’s event hopes to rally for community support through public outreach and educational efforts on stroke, in a bid to help survivors regain courage and confidence, re-integrate into the society and ultimately improve their quality of life after stroke.
Raising Awareness on Stroke this World Stroke Day
At the event, event-goers were treated to a host of activities, such as free talks by medical professionals and therapists, interactive games and story sharing by stroke survivors and caregivers. Children also took part in a friendly colouring competition and showcased their artistic flair on a piece of colouring sheet designed to educate on stroke symptoms.In addition, blood pressure monitoring stations were set-up and conducted by student nurse volunteers from NUS Alice Lee Centre for Nursing Studies, where members of the public received a complimentary check on their blood pressure to understand their risk of stroke and provide basic health advice tobetter care for themselves. They were also made aware of the symptoms of stroke to help ensure better understanding.
