i have been asked to be interviewed on Radio Devon for broadcast on stroke day. I am recovering from a stroke and sometimes give talks to other stroke recoverers at the physio classes that I attended after leaving hospital. I have also taken part in various research programmes to assist in how best to help others. I also go to a stroke club every month which will be next week and encourage others to join us.

We will be joined by other researchers working on stroke due to small vessel disease, explored by cutting edge brain imaging techniques. We will also be accompanied by colleagues from the Stroke Association's office in Scotland. Please come and support the all-day event in the main concourse of the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. The Stroke Consultants at University Crosshouse Hospital, Kilmarnock decided to mark World Stroke Day by experiencing what it must be like to live with some of the effects of a stroke.
The stroke unit's Occupational Therapist (OT) produced glasses that mimicked what a stroke survivor with a visual difficulty might experience.  Their Physiotherapist (PT) put a bandage around the Consultant’s dominant arm to stop them from being able to use it. The Speech and Language therapist (SALT) briefed canteen staff to produce pureed food that a person with a swallowing difficulty would have to eat.
The consultants Dr Copeland and Dr Shah then made their way to the canteen without the ability to see properly or have the use of one of their arms. Once there they had to buy their food, find a table and eat their pureed meal of choice.
It offered a unique perspective on what life is like for the Stroke Survivors they look after.
