To commemorate the World Stroke Day, the Korean Stroke Society will have activities to enhance public awareness of stroke in 2014.

1. Stroke awareness campaign
We conducted ‘Time is Brain’ campaign with SK Wyverns, one of Korea’s professional baseball teams. An animation introducing stroke warning signs and act on stroke is being broadcast on a big electronic display every SK Wyverns’ home game during the season. 2. Nationwide public educational program
Since 1999, the Korean Stroke Society has conducted a public educational program, in which about 50-60 multicenters nationwide have participated every year. In 2014, stroke education programs focusing on stroke risk factors, warning signs, and act on stroke will be held in medical centers nationwide around World Stroke Day.

To commemorate the World Stroke Day, the Korean Stroke Society conducted 3 major activities in 2013.

1. Nationwide public educational program
Since 1999, the Korean Stroke Society has conducted a public educational program, in which about 50-60 multicenters nationwide have participated every year. In 2013, a total of 4,882 people attended the stroke education program held in 70 medical centers and discussed stroke risk factors, warning signs, and act on stroke.

2. Stroke awareness campaign
We conducted ‘Time is Brain’ campaign with SK Knights, one of Korea’s professional basketball teams. An animation presenting FAST was broadcast during half time and the campaign event was featured on a national TV news show and in many newspapers, an estimated impression of more than 16 million. ‘Time is Brain’ campaign panel was advertised in every SK Knights’ home game during the season. In addition, we successfully completed a charity program donating 200 electric fans to elderly people living alone by fund-raising (about US$ 10,000) through the ‘Time is Brain’ campaign. Youtube website: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MKFYL9z90Ss&list=UU2b86qNxANE_0lQ71WIS06w&index=5

3. Red Circle Korea campaign
Collaborating with the Korea Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and 7 cardiovascular academic societies, we also conducted the ‘Red Circle Campaign’ that aimed to increase public awareness of blood pressure control for preventing cardiovascular disease as well as stroke.
