To mark World Stroke Day, the Stroke Team at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) is organizing a World Stoke Day Symposium to raise awareness of the key issues relating to stroke in Qatar. The event will feature a number of presentations from senior HMC leaders involved in the delivery of care to stroke patients, including updates about the specific causes of stroke in Qatar, management of acute ischemic stroke, ambulance service response for stroke patients, rehabilitation and life after stroke. The symposium is open to HMC staff as well as external people with an interest in stroke.
Stroke is one of the leading causes of mortality and the number one cause of adult disability in Qatar. Due to the high prevalence in Qatar’s population of many risk factors for stroke – including diabetes, obesity, high cholesterol, hypertension and physical inactivity – the incidence of stroke is high.

HMC is the largest healthcare provider in Qatar, managing eight hospitals, a national ambulance service and home healthcare service.

HMC’s Stroke Team has made significant improvements to the delivery of care recently; including establishing a dedicated Stroke Ward and introducing a Multidisciplinary team consisting of Stroke Neurologists, Rehabilitation Physicians, dedicated Stroke Nurses, Allied Health Professionals, Stroke Coordinators and Clinical Nurse Specialists has also been formed to provide specialized stroke care.
