Central India Institute of Medical Sciences

Stroke lecture for hospital staff, medical paramedical and administration.
Following points would be highlited
1) Stroke epidemiology with the stress on stroke in developing country like india, where stroke incidence is increasing and there is high mortality in acute phase.
2)Identification of stroke symptoms and reference to stroke centres
3) Organization of stroke wards and stroke units: while it is well understood that stroke units better known as "stroke icu" are useful, most indian hospitals are overburdened with the number f stroke patients, strategy of stroke wards where more number of patients can be managed at much lesser cost would be emphasised.

STROKE FOUNDATION OF BENGAL

Kolkata-India-STrokeBulletin-Oct-Dec-2014For us in Stroke Foundation of Bengal ( SFB ) the World Stroke Day is not a single day event or single year event. We, a not for profit organization, with no real help from any sector have taken up this painstaking task of fighting stroke. Ever since its inception in 2006, SFB has been advocating the World Stroke Campaign and observing the World Stroke Day(WSD) as per the World Stroke Organization’s directives. Our rural branch of Bolpur in the Birbhum district of West Bengal is also involved in such activities. Distributing leaflets of stroke information is an everyday affair so is writing articles in dailies and news papers in Bengali as well as English a regular feature. Seminars for common people and medical professionals is part of our curriculum. We are regular with our quartery bilingual( Bengali and English) “Stroke Bulletin” since 2008 and also screen our short documentary in Bengali ( with English subtitle) since it was produced in 2009.

Furthermore, the incidence of stroke in these nations continues to increase at an alarming rate. A significant amount of the global stroke burden is of stroke is from South Asia and is rightfully deriving attention from the international scientific community.
