Members of the Stroke team of the First Department of Neurology, Athens University, will inform the general population in Athens City Center about stroke symptoms, major risk factors and acute treatment strategies. Blood pressure measurements, as well as ultrasonographic examinations of the neck arteries will be performed. The public awareness will be controlled by distributing printed questionnaires.

Pamphlets with basic information will be also distributed to the public. Our specialists will provide parallel small presentations and will then be available for answering questions. Volunteers and students of Athens University Medical School will also be assisting at these events.

A press release with the theme "1 in 6" along with additional informative materials will be distributed to all local radio stations, TV stations and newspapers.Television and radio-interviews will be also arranged.

HELLENIC (GREEK) STROKE SOCIETY (GREEK SOCIETY OF CEREBROVASCULAR DISEASES)

On World Stroke Day, the Hellenic (Greek) Stroke Society (Hellenic Society of Cerebrovascular Diseases) - www.cerebrovascular.gr - , a WSO member organization, in collaboration with the Greek Neurological Society - www.enee.gr - will organise their major event in Athens with public lectures of experts and free discussion - Questions & Answers (Q&A). This event will take place in the Cultural Center of the City of Athens, under the auspices of the Greek Ministry of Health and City of Athens.

WSO campaign advocacy posters will be adapted for local use and translated into Greek.

On October 29th, we will take part in the official opening of the new website of the Hellenic (Greek) Stroke Society with a special guide in Greek for the stroke patients.

An awareness campaign in local media (TV, radio, newspaper, magazines) in different cities has been planned in collaboration with local medical societies and universities (Thessaloniki, Alexandroupolis, Ioannina).
