Stroke is the second most common cause of death worldwide and will affect one in every six people during his/her lifetime. Yet, stroke lacks a universal solidarity awareness symbol that can be used to advance a unified call to action.
The WSO has therefore launched a competition to design/conceptualize a symbol for stroke awareness that can be adapted across media.
The advocacy content will be judged by a panel comprised of distinguished individuals from the global stroke community. We invite you to share your creative ideas.
EXTENDED DEADLINE: 15 MAY, 2011
Background:
A pink ribbon on a lapel has come to symbolize solidarity against breast cancer, wearing a red ribbon represents empowerment and support for people living with HIV/AIDS. Yellow wristbands have come to signify solidarity with or being a cancer survivor. There are many other awareness symbols that have become associated with other diseases and illnesses.
To date, stroke, a non-communicable disease that kills nearly six million people every year does not have a universal solidarity symbol or image. The time has come for change therefore WSO launched this competition during the World Stroke Congress in October 2010, offering an incentive to produce the winning entry and raising awareness of the threat of stroke.
The prize:
-
The winning symbol or design will be promoted by the WSO, its members, partners and to the wider global public health community
-
The winner will be announced in an official WSO press release
-
An award certificate and a cash prize of €2,000 will be awarded to the prize winner
Who may enter?
The competition is open to anyone aged 18 and over, worldwide. WSO encourages any person or group who has an affiliation, or who identifies with the stroke community to take part; stroke patients, stroke survivors, stroke educators, creative artists, students, researchers, caregivers, scientific communities and professional designers.
The competition is not open to individuals with a potential conflict of interest.
